You’re From A Whole Other World

YO. I must confess the first time I heard this song, it was a little overwhelming – I was too vulnerable and unprepared. Drinking a bath-tub of gin will do that to you. But since then, it has become a firm favourite.

If forced to describe it, I would say it sounds like a song by Bjork for a spaghetti western directed by Quentin Tarantino. Make of that what you will. Also, Wikipedia tells me that it’s trip-hop. WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN?

Just bear with me here and give it a go.

So bizarre. And yet so good.

I Do Like To Be Beside The Sea

I doubt it will come as a surprise when I tell you I’m no Richard Branson. Sadly, I cannot jet off to a tropical beach, complete with magnificent sunset and saucy manservant, whenever the mood takes me. My reasons are manifold, including a lack of both money and the necessary organisation, as well as this whole university malarkey.

But fear not, if you are in similarly dire straits for I give you Mishka. His sunny songs are the next best thing. He is so wonderfully laid-back that he is the face of the surf clothing line O’Neill.

Beach bum beautiful.

I’m Singing In The Rain

Oh, dear friends. It’s raining. It’s exam season. It’s not yet summer. Yet it’s still too late to properly organise your summer so you’re just going to have to wing it. It’s ever so horrible.

So I say DANCE IT OFF. Put on a happy tune and give the neighbours across the road something to laugh at. Eat your bodyweight in the ice cream that you bought prematurely and then bask in the glory of a sugar rush. Be happy.

Hell, crunk if you want to!

You’re Making Me Feel So Nice

So what did we already know about King Charles? His glorious hair is bewitching and the man can carry a tune. My sources (friends) tell me he is also very funny and charming, if mildly unhinged.

His new song is as toe-tappingly fun as expected but what I did not see coming was how I also felt strangely uplifted. Hombre, I’m not sure what is going on. It might be the stress-eating, exam-delirium or just not leaving the house all day, but this song is balm for the soul.

What a man. What a head of hair. Truly, I will NEVER get over it.

Going To Sing You An Old Country Song

Good afternoon class.

This here is a song by a charming young man called Will Knox. It was recommended to me by the equally talented and startlingly ginger Alec Gross.  So it seems wholly acceptable that I steal  something he originally said about another of Will’s songs.

It’s “a fine soundtrack for just about anything worth doing”. I couldn’t agree more.

Disclaimer: Lying in bed and eating biscuits is most certainly worth doing.

Monday, I’ve Got Friday On My Mind

Hullo kittens! I very much hope you’ll find it in your hearts to forgive yet another lengthy absence but exams are still coming at me left, right and centre. Luckily, I am footloose and fancy-free until Friday and we all know I shan’t get anything productive done until Thursday, so I might as well make up for lost time by sending out several little musical gems into cyberspace.

First up is a band called The Chap. They were introduced to me by a dear old friend, whose tastes are usually too sophisticated or avant-garde for me. I am still not sure if I like them, but one thing I do know for sure is they are so very, very catchy. See for yourselves:

You will never have a jooooooob…

Things Can Only Get Better

Right. I’m getting my shit together again. For better or for worse, it’s too late to do anything about my failing academic career now. So I’m going to the park, and I plan to lie in the grass with my eyes closed for a very long time. Probably listening to this. Marianne does wistful happy-sad summer cool (it’s a thing) to perfection.
